More and more cus\u00adtomers are adopt\u00ading res\u00adi\u00adden\u00adtial solar ener\u00adgy feed\u00ading into the grid, and switch\u00ading to elec\u00adtric vehi\u00adcles, which is putting an increas\u00ading strain on the con\u00adsumer side of the grid. Troy W. Dick\u00ader\u00adson, Vice Pres\u00adi\u00addent of Engi\u00adneer\u00ading at DEC, remarks: \u201cWe were look\u00ading for solu\u00adtions to com\u00adpen\u00adsate for these fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions and came across the VRDT with the Rein\u00adhausen tap-chang\u00ader. We were con\u00advinced by the fact that the tap-chang\u00ader is built into a trans\u00adformer with exact\u00adly the same foot\u00adprint as a con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal trans\u00adformer, and is there\u00adfore no dif\u00adfer\u00adent in terms of instal\u00adla\u00adtion.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To solve increas\u00ading volt\u00adage prob\u00adlems, Jen\u00adnings looked for a cost-effec\u00adtive solu\u00adtion to sta\u00adbi\u00adlize the chang\u00ading dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grid. As the Oper\u00adat\u00ading Super\u00adin\u00adten\u00addent for the munic\u00adi\u00adpal util\u00adi\u00adty, Brown and his 45 employ\u00adees deliv\u00ader elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty, gas and water to about 4,400 cus\u00adtomers in the Hum\u00adboldt, Ten\u00adnessee, area. \u201cWe\u2019ve been expe\u00adri\u00adenc\u00ading grow\u00ading indus\u00adtri\u00adal demand, which has caused fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions in our unreg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded grid. One cus\u00adtomer in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar was affect\u00aded, and we worked togeth\u00ader to find a solu\u00adtion.\u201d They found what they were look\u00ading for at anoth\u00ader indus\u00adtri\u00adal cus\u00adtomer of Hum\u00adboldt Util\u00adi\u00adties, Rein\u00adhausen USA itself, which oper\u00adates its plant in Hum\u00adboldt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe VRDT con\u00adcept won us over right away,\u201d Brown says, not\u00ading that \u201cBecause this reg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00ading trans\u00adformer is only a lit\u00adtle heav\u00adier than its unreg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsor, all we had to do was replace the poles and make a new plat\u00adform on which to install the VRDT bank. The instal\u00adla\u00adtion itself was then real\u00adly very easy.\u201d The affect\u00aded indus\u00adtri\u00adal customer\u2019s volt\u00adage prob\u00adlems are now a thing of the past, and Brown is enthu\u00adsi\u00adas\u00adtic: \u201cAny util\u00adi\u00adty that has volt\u00adage prob\u00adlems with indus\u00adtri\u00adal cus\u00adtomers can best solve them with the VRDT.
