The approx\u00adi\u00admate\u00adly 240 employ\u00adees at the site cur\u00adrent\u00adly pro\u00adduce around 115 medi\u00adum-pow\u00ader trans\u00adform\u00aders and 25 shunt reac\u00adtors every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And thanks to the ener\u00adgy tran\u00adsi\u00adtion, the equip\u00adment is in greater demand than ever before. The impor\u00adtance of shunt reac\u00adtors \u2013 also known as com\u00adpen\u00adsat\u00ading reac\u00adtors \u2013 will con\u00adtin\u00adue to grow in the future as they com\u00adpen\u00adsate for reac\u00adtive pow\u00ader, increase trans\u00admis\u00adsion effi\u00adcien\u00adcy, and reg\u00adu\u00adlate volt\u00adage at the same time. In short, they keep the grids sta\u00adble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to cope with the enor\u00admous increase in demand, Siemens Ener\u00adgy plans to expand its pro\u00adduc\u00adtion in Dres\u00adden. Woll\u00admann says: \u201cWe want to man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adture more trans\u00adform\u00aders and at the same time increase the pro\u00adpor\u00adtion of shunt reac\u00adtors. Because whether it\u2019s a trans\u00adformer or a shunt reac\u00adtor \u2013 before the colos\u00adsi weigh\u00ading sev\u00ader\u00adal tons are sent to cus\u00adtomers, they have to pass an exten\u00adsive cat\u00ada\u00adlog of tests. \u201cDepend\u00ading on what addi\u00adtion\u00adal require\u00adments the cus\u00adtomers have, these fac\u00adto\u00adry accep\u00adtance tests can take between two days and a week and a half,\u201d says Woll\u00admann. This is absolute\u00adly nec\u00ades\u00adsary because any unde\u00adtect\u00aded error could have fatal con\u00adse\u00adquences lat\u00ader in oper\u00ada\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How\u00adev\u00ader, the test facil\u00adi\u00adty in Dres\u00adden was not pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly designed to car\u00adry out these tests on shunt reac\u00adtors. High three-phase test volt\u00adages must be pro\u00advid\u00aded for them and the require\u00adments for the tests with high\u00ader test fre\u00adquen\u00adcies are more com\u00adplex. Pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly, the accep\u00adtance tests were car\u00adried out at the sis\u00adter plant in Nurem\u00adberg, but the process involved was too com\u00adpli\u00adcat\u00aded and too expen\u00adsive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siemens Ener\u00adgy there\u00adfore decid\u00aded to upgrade the test field in Dres\u00adden. Even though the basic prin\u00adci\u00adple of these sys\u00adtems is the same, every test sys\u00adtem that he and his team design is unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How\u00adev\u00ader, the test sys\u00adtem at Siemens Ener\u00adgy was also some\u00adthing spe\u00adcial for Thiede: \u201cWe nor\u00admal\u00adly offer a con\u00adtain\u00ader solu\u00adtion, but that was out of the ques\u00adtion due to the struc\u00adtur\u00adal con\u00addi\u00adtions.\u201d So space had to be cre\u00adat\u00aded first: Two old gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors were tak\u00aden out of the base\u00adment, ceil\u00adings were lift\u00aded, and new floors were installed to accom\u00admo\u00addate com\u00adpo\u00adnents such as con\u00advert\u00aders, capac\u00adi\u00adtor banks, and, above all, the new 200 MVA extra-high volt\u00adage adapt\u00ading trans\u00adformer which sup\u00adplies the test volt\u00adage of up to 360,000 volts required for the shunt reac\u00adtors and was man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtured by Siemens Ener\u00adgy based on HIGHVOLT\u2019s design spec\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One spe\u00adcial fea\u00adture that HIGHVOLT has devel\u00adoped espe\u00adcial\u00adly for Siemens Ener\u00adgy is a so-called DC exten\u00adsion which can be used to test how the induc\u00adtance behaves with a grad\u00adual increase in volt\u00adage: \u201cThis addi\u00adtion\u00adal device can be used to charge the shunt reac\u00adtor with a direct cur\u00adrent and thus sim\u00adu\u00adlate 150 per\u00adcent oper\u00ada\u00adtion, that is, even above the pow\u00ader lim\u00adits of our AC volt\u00adage sys\u00adtem,\u201d explains Thiede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More shunt reactors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the test\u00ading sys\u00adtem was final\u00adly ready for oper\u00ada\u00adtion after just eleven months of con\u00adstruc\u00adtion, the shunt reac\u00adtors were already queu\u00ading up. The sys\u00adtem worked straight away and Woll\u00admann is very sat\u00adis\u00adfied: \u201cWith such a com\u00adplex sys\u00adtem, that\u2019s not a giv\u00aden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, some fine tun\u00ading had to be done, but in the end the shunt reac\u00adtors and trans\u00adform\u00aders suc\u00adcess\u00adful\u00adly left the fac\u00adto\u00adry and that\u2019s what counts.\u201d Grid oper\u00ada\u00adtors can also be pleased: Siemens Ener\u00adgy can now offer sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly more shunt reac\u00adtors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group mgznkr-elements mgznkr-box\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reinhausen Inside&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The AC volt\u00adage test sys\u00adtem devel\u00adoped for Siemens Ener\u00adgy con\u00adsists of a con\u00advert\u00ader, capac\u00adi\u00adtor banks, a 123 kV match\u00ading trans\u00adformer for trans\u00adformer test\u00ading and a 400 kV match\u00ading trans\u00adformer for shunt reac\u00adtor test\u00ading. The sys\u00adtem can be used to test both trans\u00adform\u00aders and shunt reac\u00adtors in accor\u00addance with IEC stan\u00addards.
