The ener\u00adgy mar\u00adket is chang\u00ading. Where\u00adas pure AC grids used to dom\u00adi\u00adnate, we now live in a hybrid world with decen\u00adtral\u00adized gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors such as solar and wind pow\u00ader plants sup\u00adply\u00ading DC volt\u00adage, and con\u00adsumers such as e\u2011vehicle charg\u00ading sta\u00adtions using it. Local DC grids are there\u00adfore an effi\u00adcient solu\u00adtion for bet\u00adter net\u00adwork\u00ading of this hybrid world. This means coor\u00addi\u00adnat\u00ading ener\u00adgy pro\u00adduc\u00aders and con\u00adsumers, and con\u00adnect\u00ading them with min\u00adi\u00admal loss\u00ades and with\u00adout any con\u00adver\u00adsion process\u00ades. Such an approach allows costs to be saved in a vari\u00adety of ways, both in the con\u00adstruc\u00adtion of the infra\u00adstruc\u00adture and in oper\u00ada\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new, excit\u00ading mar\u00adket areas for pow\u00ader elec\u00adtron\u00adics in the low-volt\u00adage range require suit\u00adable sys\u00adtem solu\u00adtions \u2014 the right task for the team at MR Pow\u00ader Qual\u00adi\u00adty Con\u00advert\u00aders in Berlin. For\u00admer\u00adly part of AEG, it has been part of MR for over 20 years and, in recent years, has con\u00adtin\u00adued to devel\u00adop in line with mar\u00adket require\u00adments. For exam\u00adple, with its mod\u00adu\u00adlar active fil\u00adter for bal\u00adanc\u00ading cur\u00adrent and volt\u00adage fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions in AC grids or its mod\u00adu\u00adlar pow\u00ader con\u00advert\u00ader for bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage in hybrid grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the GRIDCON\u00ae DC prod\u00aducts, the Berlin-based com\u00adpa\u00adny launched new prod\u00aducts on the mar\u00adket in 2023, with which it is tap\u00adping into a future mar\u00adket by enabling the con\u00adnec\u00adtion of DC gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors, stor\u00adage sys\u00adtems and con\u00adsumers to a local DC grid. The new GRIDCON\u00ae DC Charg\u00ader, for exam\u00adple, offers a charg\u00ading infra\u00adstruc\u00adture for cars and com\u00admer\u00adcial vehi\u00adcles. \u201cDC grids are cur\u00adrent\u00adly the sub\u00adject of much dis\u00adcus\u00adsion and are in high demand from cus\u00adtomers,\u201d says Kim Urbanke from Pow\u00ader Qual\u00adi\u00adty Con\u00advert\u00aders Sales. \u201cCus\u00adtomers are look\u00ading for ever more effi\u00adcient sys\u00adtems and at the same time our sales part\u00adners are look\u00ading for inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive approach\u00ades with which they can dif\u00adfer\u00aden\u00adti\u00adate them\u00adselves even bet\u00adter from their com\u00adpeti\u00adtors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand for a fast and ener\u00adgy-effi\u00adcient charg\u00ading infra\u00adstruc\u00adture is par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly high in the e\u2011mobility sec\u00adtor. Retail\u00aders are equip\u00adping their park\u00ading lots with charg\u00ading points, and logis\u00adtics providers and local pub\u00adlic trans\u00adport are also look\u00ading for suit\u00adable solu\u00adtions. Kim Urbanke explains: \u201cDC tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy pays off for fleet providers in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar for whom the total cost of own\u00ader\u00adship, or TCO for short, is rel\u00ade\u00advant. Accord\u00ading to Urbanke, depot solu\u00adtions with self-gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded and tem\u00adporar\u00adi\u00adly stored solar pow\u00ader are already sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly cheap\u00ader than fos\u00adsil fuels in many appli\u00adca\u00adtions. The MR range is not lim\u00adit\u00aded to e\u2011mobility, how\u00adev\u00ader. Indus\u00adtri\u00adal com\u00adpa\u00adnies can also use the prod\u00aducts to con\u00advert parts of their grid to DC volt\u00adage, there\u00adby increas\u00ading the effi\u00adcien\u00adcy of their over\u00adall grid and sav\u00ading costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 40-strong team of expe\u00adri\u00adenced and young col\u00adleagues is not short of fresh ideas. \u201cWe are char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adized by a high lev\u00adel of tech\u00adni\u00adcal exper\u00adtise and spe\u00adcial\u00adized knowl\u00adedge,\u201d says Urbanke. Cou\u00adpled with cre\u00adativ\u00adi\u00adty and inno\u00adv\u00ada\u00adtive strength, this exper\u00adtise is need\u00aded to devel\u00adop prod\u00aducts for new mar\u00adkets. \u201cEvery\u00adone here is very moti\u00advat\u00aded to open up new busi\u00adness areas and grow,\u201d he empha\u00adsizes. Since the begin\u00adning of 2023, their loca\u00adtion has been at the for\u00admer Tegel Air\u00adport, in the Urban Tech Repub\u00adlic, the research and indus\u00adtri\u00adal park for urban tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies that is being built there. Here there is plen\u00adty of space for their ideas as well as real test envi\u00adron\u00adments, such as the Sys\u00adtem Inte\u00adgra\u00adtion Cen\u00adter, where devel\u00adop\u00aders can fine-tune new DC sys\u00adtem solu\u00adtions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Innovative pilot project by MR Power Quality Converters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Refu\u00adel elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty with\u00adout detours: solar pow\u00ader from the roof for charg\u00ading sta\u00adtions and com\u00admer\u00adcial prop\u00ader\u00adties<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. The Goal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The retail com\u00adpa\u00adny Buch\u00adbauer wants to cov\u00ader most of the ener\u00adgy sup\u00adply for a new Ede\u00adka super\u00admar\u00adket and its e\u2011car charg\u00ading sta\u00adtions for cus\u00adtomers with low-cost, local\u00adly gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded solar ener\u00adgy. Despite a lim\u00adit\u00aded AC grid con\u00adnec\u00adtion, a high-per\u00adfor\u00admance PV sys\u00adtem is to be installed to uti\u00adlize the full poten\u00adtial of the roof and an expand\u00adable range of attrac\u00adtive fast-charg\u00ading sta\u00adtions is to be set up\u2013without any lengthy and expen\u00adsive grid expan\u00adsion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Implementation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The pilot project was car\u00adried out in coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion with the LET Group, a sys\u00adtem inte\u00adgra\u00adtor for DC grids. MR sup\u00adplied its tried, test\u00aded and cer\u00adti\u00adfied GRIDCON\u00ae PCS invert\u00ader, a new GRIDCON\u00ae DC trans\u00adformer for direct DC stor\u00adage con\u00adnec\u00adtion, and a GRIDCON\u00ae DCC charg\u00ading sta\u00adtion installed in the DC grid. Jonas Epper\u00adlein, Pow\u00ader Qual\u00adi\u00adty Con\u00advert\u00aders Sales, says: \u201cHigh\u00adly effi\u00adcient stor\u00adage sys\u00adtems ensure the nec\u00ades\u00adsary har\u00admo\u00adny between low-cost, volatile gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion from local PV sys\u00adtems and the fluc\u00adtu\u00adat\u00ading demands of e\u2011mobility.\u201d This pilot project serves as a tem\u00adplate for a cross-sec\u00adtor mul\u00adti\u00adpli\u00adca\u00adtion of the PV2V sys\u00adtem approach, for exam\u00adple in logis\u00adtics or local pub\u00adlic trans\u00adport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team led by Matthias Jaco\u00adbi, Head of Pow\u00ader Qual\u00adi\u00adty Con\u00advert\u00aders, devel\u00adops suit\u00adable sys\u00adtem solu\u00adtions for pow\u00ader elec\u00adtron\u00adics in the low-volt\u00adage range.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3. The Result<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A PV sys\u00adtem with an out\u00adput of 345 kWp was con\u00adnect\u00aded to the exist\u00ading 170 kW AC grid con\u00adnec\u00adtion, which would not have been pos\u00adsi\u00adble in a con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal AC grid. Local\u00adly required elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty, for exam\u00adple for charg\u00ading, is pro\u00advid\u00aded direct\u00adly from the local PV gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion. PV2V (pho\u00adto\u00advolta\u00adic-2-vehi\u00adcle) sys\u00adtems thus cre\u00adate a lucra\u00adtive, low-cost charg\u00ading offer that ensures sat\u00adis\u00adfied cus\u00adtomers and a super\u00admar\u00adket that is always full. Excess solar pow\u00ader at times when gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion exceeds demand is stored and con\u00adsumed as soon as pos\u00adsi\u00adble. The effi\u00adcient DC grid con\u00adnec\u00adtion increas\u00ades the yield of the PV sys\u00adtem, sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly reduces stor\u00adage loss\u00ades and enables the expan\u00adsion of the charg\u00ading infra\u00adstruc\u00adture at exist\u00ading AC grid con\u00adnec\u00adtions using all local\u00adly avail\u00adable poten\u00adtial. The max\u00adi\u00admum uti\u00adliza\u00adtion of local AC grid con\u00adnec\u00adtion capac\u00adi\u00adties also sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly reduces grid plan\u00adning efforts and short\u00adens oth\u00ader\u00adwise time-con\u00adsum\u00ading approvals for gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion and con\u00adsump\u00adtion sys\u00adtems.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
