Com\u00adpared to out\u00addoor switchgear, GIS sys\u00adtems take up sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly less space and are there\u00adfore par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly suit\u00adable for use in urban areas. And thanks to the out\u00adstand\u00ading prop\u00ader\u00adties of SF<sub>6<\/sub>, very com\u00adpact designs are pos\u00adsi\u00adble.&nbsp;How\u00adev\u00ader, this pop\u00adu\u00adlar insu\u00adlat\u00ading gas has a seri\u00adous dis\u00adad\u00advan\u00adtage: a cat\u00ada\u00adstroph\u00adic cli\u00admate foot\u00adprint. Dr. Tobias Gabler from HIGHVOLT explains: \u201cThe chal\u00adlenge is that there is no oth\u00ader gas that has sim\u00adi\u00adlar\u00adly good prop\u00ader\u00adties to SF<sub>6<\/sub>.\u201d Although there are already alter\u00adna\u00adtives on the mar\u00adket that have a sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly bet\u00adter car\u00adbon foot\u00adprint, some of them also con\u00adtain flu\u00ado\u00adri\u00adnat\u00aded gas\u00ades, which the EU also wants to ban. \u201cWe want\u00aded a future-proof solu\u00adtion for our sys\u00adtems. We want our cus\u00adtomers to be able to rely on the assur\u00adance that they will still be able to use their test\u00ading sys\u00adtems in ten years\u2019 time,\u201d explains Gabler.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background:linear-gradient(135deg,rgb(255,253,228) 0%,rgb(254,237,1) 100%)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Solution&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">So, what is the alter\u00adna\u00adtive? The answer sounds very sim\u00adple: syn\u00adthet\u00adic air. It con\u00adsists of nitro\u00adgen and oxy\u00adgen, has a glob\u00adal warm\u00ading poten\u00adtial of zero and is there\u00adfore com\u00adplete\u00adly harm\u00adless to the cli\u00admate. The catch: syn\u00adthet\u00adic air has sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly poor\u00ader insu\u00adlat\u00ading prop\u00ader\u00adties and can\u00adnot replace SF<sub>6<\/sub> gas on a one-to-one basis. \u201cHow\u00adev\u00ader, the dis\u00adad\u00advan\u00adtages can be over\u00adcome if we revise the design of our test\u00ading and mea\u00adsur\u00ading sys\u00adtems,\u201d explains Gabler. The test\u00ading experts at HIGHVOLT are there\u00adfore grad\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly scru\u00adti\u00adniz\u00ading all mea\u00adsur\u00ading and test\u00ading sys\u00adtems and inves\u00adti\u00adgat\u00ading how they can adapt the com\u00adpo\u00adnents to the new require\u00adments. For exam\u00adple, the insu\u00adlat\u00ading capac\u00adi\u00adty of syn\u00adthet\u00adic air can be sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly improved by almost dou\u00adbling the oper\u00adat\u00ading pres\u00adsure in the sys\u00adtems from four to sev\u00aden bar. Over\u00adall, these mea\u00adsures make our sys\u00adtems around 20 per\u00adcent larg\u00ader, but oth\u00ader\u00adwise all func\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adi\u00adties remain the same,\u201d says Gabler. As more and more GIS man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00aders are also increas\u00ading\u00adly rely\u00ading on syn\u00adthet\u00adic air, HIGHVOLT\u2019s sys\u00adtems are com\u00adpat\u00adi\u00adble with them. How\u00adev\u00ader, exist\u00ading sys\u00adtems that are still oper\u00adat\u00aded with SF<sub>6<\/sub> can also con\u00adtin\u00adue to be test\u00aded if appro\u00adpri\u00adate adapters are used. \u201cOur sys\u00adtems are very flex\u00adi\u00adble in this respect,\u201d empha\u00adsizes Gabler.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addi\u00adtion to the envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal aspect, syn\u00adthet\u00adic air also has oth\u00ader advan\u00adtages for oper\u00ada\u00adtors such as much eas\u00adi\u00ader gas han\u00addling.
