But it doesn\u2019t always have to be a pow\u00ader fail\u00adure; even small volt\u00adage \ufb02uc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions can dis\u00adrupt the sen\u00adsi\u00adtive elec\u00adtron\u00adics of life-sup\u00adport tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. A failure must be prevented at all costs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Roy\u00adal Old\u00adham Hos\u00adpi\u00adtal oper\u00adates like a self-con\u00adtained town with its own com\u00adplex elec\u00adtri\u00adcal net\u00adwork. Mul\u00adti\u00adple trans\u00adform\u00aders step down the grid sup\u00adply volt\u00adage for var\u00adi\u00adous oper\u00ada\u00adtional zones, while a gas tur\u00adbine pro\u00advides sup\u00adple\u00admen\u00adtary on-site gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion for heat and pow\u00ader ef\ufb01\u00adcien\u00adcy. How\u00adev\u00ader, there had been fre\u00adquent prob\u00adlems in the past with syn\u00adchro\u00adniz\u00ading the gas tur\u00adbine with the incom\u00ading grid sup\u00adply. Repeat\u00aded issues led to neg\u00ada\u00adtive sequence cur\u00adrents, volt\u00adage insta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty, and harmonics\u2013degrading tur\u00adbine per\u00adfor\u00admance and trig\u00adger\u00ading repeat\u00aded shut\u00addowns of the com\u00adbined heat and pow\u00ader (CHP) plant. In a 24\/7 health\u00adcare facil\u00adi\u00adty, such events are unac\u00adcept\u00adable. A quick solu\u00adtion was there\u00adfore need\u00aded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A precision solution for a critical network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Recog\u00adnis\u00ading the com\u00adplex\u00adi\u00adty of the issue, the region\u00adal dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtor SP Ener\u00adgy Net\u00adworks (ENW), rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded John\u00adson & Phillips, a spe\u00adcial\u00adist provider of high- and low-volt\u00adage tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy<\/a>, to take on the chal\u00adlenge. We mod\u00adelled the sys\u00adtem behav\u00adior and designed a solu\u00adtion to erad\u00adi\u00adcate volt\u00adage ari\u00ada\u00adtion and har\u00admon\u00adic dis\u00adtor\u00adtion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the cen\u00adter of this solu\u00adtion is a trans\u00adformer \ufb01tted with MR\u2019s ECOTAP\u00ae<\/sup> VPD\u00ae<\/sup>, fea\u00adtur\u00ading a nine-posi\u00adtion auto\u00admat\u00adic con\u00adtrol range. Thanks to proven vac\u00adu\u00adum tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, the tap chang\u00ader is main\u00adte\u00adnance-free and there\u00adfore very reliable\u2013ideal for sen\u00adsi\u00adtive grid appli\u00adca\u00adtions such as hos\u00adpi\u00adtals. \u201cThe trans\u00adformer equipped with the ECOTAP\u00ae<\/sup> VPD\u00ae<\/sup> now forms the main pow\u00ader sys\u00adtem for crit\u00adi\u00adcal sup\u00adply areas in the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal,\u201d says Probert.
