Why?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BIRBACHER:<\/strong> For us, it was clear from the out\u00adset that we want\u00aded to work with a strong part\u00adner, agree on the inter\u00adfaces and devel\u00adop a prod\u00aduct that was reli\u00adable, safe to oper\u00adate, and above all, could be launched on the mar\u00adket quick\u00adly. Both of our com\u00adpa\u00adnies have an excel\u00adlent rep\u00adu\u00adta\u00adtion and stand for many years of expe\u00adri\u00adence, qual\u00adi\u00adty, and longevi\u00adty. If we say that we com\u00adbine SBG exper\u00adtise with Rein\u00adhausen tap-chang\u00ader tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, we don\u2019t have to adver\u00adtise much more than that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B\u00dcHNERT:<\/strong> One major advan\u00adtage is that we offer a plug &amp; play solu\u00adtion that is inter\u00adest\u00ading for all users who want to improve their net\u00adwork qual\u00adi\u00adty. In addi\u00adtion to sup\u00adply net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtors, this also applies to indus\u00adtri\u00adal com\u00adpa\u00adnies that have increased demands in rela\u00adtion to a sta\u00adble volt\u00adage band in the net\u00adwork due to sen\u00adsi\u00adtive process\u00ades.<br>\n<\/p>\n<h3>What sets the VRDT with ECOTAP VPD apart?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>B\u00dcHNERT:<\/strong>A key advan\u00adtage is the abil\u00adi\u00adty to inte\u00adgrate the VRDT into exist\u00ading infra\u00adstruc\u00adtures. The VRDT foot\u00adprint, i.e., the floor space that it occu\u00adpies, is near\u00adly iden\u00adti\u00adcal to that of its unreg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded coun\u00adter\u00adpart. In addi\u00adtion, it can switch under load and com\u00adplete tap changes under all con\u00addi\u00adtions. And we can cov\u00ader the entire volt\u00adage band with a con\u00adtrol band\u00adwidth of plus\/minus ten per\u00adcent. For exam\u00adple, the VRDT can be used as a direct reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtor in the low-volt\u00adage net\u00adwork, or as a sup\u00adport to sta\u00adbi\u00adlize the medi\u00adum-volt\u00adage net\u00adwork. In addi\u00adtion, the tap-chang\u00ader does not cause any addi\u00adtion\u00adal loss\u00ades. This is not only impor\u00adtant in terms of effi\u00adcien\u00adcy, but also in terms of heat devel\u00adop\u00adment.<\/p>\n<h3>Was it a complicated development process to get the VRDT ready for series production?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BIRBACHER:<\/strong> We are gen\u00ader\u00adal\u00adly very quick at design\u00ading a func\u00adtion\u00adal mod\u00adel. Ulti\u00admate\u00adly, we were deal\u00ading with a trans\u00adformer with addi\u00adtion\u00adal taps, which we then opti\u00admized over the course of many devel\u00adop\u00adment steps. It was there\u00adfore pos\u00adsi\u00adble to test var\u00adi\u00adous wind\u00ading and reac\u00adtor designs. As a result of devel\u00adop\u00ading our own reac\u00adtors and thanks to their instal\u00adla\u00adtion posi\u00adtion, we were able to halve the addi\u00adtion\u00adal loss\u00ades in bridge posi\u00adtions, as well as fur\u00adther opti\u00admize the size and sound emis\u00adsion. We were able to improve these aspects even more by chang\u00ading to the high-speed resis\u00adtor-type tap-chang\u00ader prin\u00adci\u00adple of the ECOTAP VPD. We worked close\u00adly with Rein\u00adhausen on all the steps, and we have both prof\u00adit\u00aded great\u00adly from this coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion. We have been sup\u00adply\u00ading ser\u00adi\u00adal-pro\u00adduc\u00adtion VRDTs since 2012. By now they are part of the stan\u00addard oper\u00adat\u00ading equip\u00adment for ener\u00adgy providers.<\/p>\n<h3>Were there any difficult obstacles during this optimization phase?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>B\u00dcHNERT:<\/strong> There were three main points. First of all, it was dif\u00adfi\u00adcult to coor\u00addi\u00adnate the inter\u00adfaces between the trans\u00adformer, the tap-chang\u00ader, and the con\u00adtrol tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. In addi\u00adtion, a trans\u00adformer with a tap-chang\u00ader behaves dif\u00adfer\u00adent\u00adly from a con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal one. This was some\u00adthing that we had to con\u00adsid\u00ader dur\u00ading the design phase. The third point was the behav\u00adior with alter\u00adna\u00adtive insu\u00adlat\u00ading media. Due to the inter\u00adnal mechan\u00adics there was a lot to con\u00adsid\u00ader with regard to the oper\u00adat\u00ading tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture.<\/p>\n<h3>How easy was it to integrate the VRDT into live production?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BIRBACHER:<\/strong> We are used to pro\u00adduc\u00ading spe\u00adcial solu\u00adtions. There\u00adfore, series pro\u00adduc\u00adtion was not a prob\u00adlem. The tap-chang\u00ader is very easy to inte\u00adgrate with\u00adout any spe\u00adcial tools. Nor\u00admal\u00adly, we install de-ener\u00adgized tap-chang\u00aders, which can be switched off, in dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion trans\u00adform\u00aders. These are adjust\u00aded accord\u00ading\u00adly to match the grid volt\u00adage. The prin\u00adci\u00adple is basi\u00adcal\u00adly the same, except that the ECOTAP VPD is slight\u00adly larg\u00ader and heav\u00adier in com\u00adpar\u00adi\u00adson to tap-chang\u00aders that can be switched off.<\/p>\n<h3>How do you rate the market potential?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BIRBACHER:<\/strong>Around 70 per\u00adcent of the approx. 1,000 VRDTs in Ger\u00admany were pro\u00adduced by SBG. The emer\u00adgence of oth\u00ader mar\u00adkets will obvi\u00adous\u00adly depend on how the respec\u00adtive gov\u00adern\u00adments pro\u00admote alter\u00adna\u00adtive ener\u00adgies. Among oth\u00ader things, we see fur\u00adther poten\u00adtial in the expan\u00adsion of e\u2011mobility infra\u00adstruc\u00adtures. We main\u00adly attract sup\u00adply net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtors and ener\u00adgy sup\u00adply com\u00adpa\u00adnies, and of course we also car\u00adry out projects direct\u00adly with indus\u00adtri\u00adal cus\u00adtomers and com\u00adpa\u00adnies for alter\u00adna\u00adtive ener\u00adgy gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion. For exam\u00adple, we can sup\u00adply wind ener\u00adgy plants with con\u00adtrol tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, which means that the feed-in already has the opti\u00admum volt\u00adage qual\u00adi\u00adty.
