It was brought to its mechan\u00adi\u00adcal fail\u00adure lim\u00adit by hav\u00ading high\u00adly dynam\u00adic impact loads applied to it. The test con\u00adtin\u00adued until the mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal failed. Doing this makes it pos\u00adsi\u00adble to ascer\u00adtain the qual\u00adi\u00adty of a mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover alignfull has-custom-content-position is-position-bottom-center\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-background-dim-0 has-background-dim\"><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-cover__image-background\" alt src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2018\/11\/makro-aufnahme-schaltkontakt.jpg\" data-object-fit=\"cover\"><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-cover-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"testbild alignright wp-image-3662 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2018\/11\/Schaltkontakt_Legierung.jpg\" alt width=\"200\" height=\"200\"><\/figure>\n<p>This <strong>main switch\u00ading con\u00adtact<\/strong>, made from sin\u00adtered tung\u00adsten and cop\u00adper, is designed for a max\u00adi\u00admum cur\u00adrent of 350 amperes. A cur\u00adrent of this mag\u00adni\u00adtude was switched to a volt\u00adage of 1,500 V some 50,000 times in order to test the wear on the con\u00adtact.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"initial\">O<\/span>n\u2011load tap-chang\u00aders have a hard life. They need to stay relia\u00adble whether they are exposed to the sear\u00ading heat of the desert or the freez\u00ading tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures of Siberia \u2013 and even if light\u00adning strikes, we demand elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty sup\u00adplies that will stay up and run\u00adning. Harsh con\u00addi\u00adtions are all part of every\u00adday net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtion, but there are also a num\u00adber of spe\u00adcial appli\u00adca\u00adtions that expose on-load tap-chang\u00aders to spe\u00adcif\u00adic kinds of strain. One exam\u00adple of this is found in the huge num\u00adber of tap-change oper\u00ada\u00adtions that take place in steel\u00adworks\u2019 fur\u00adnace trans\u00adform\u00aders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MR there\u00adfore has sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties on its shoul\u00adders as a man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ader of these com\u00adpo\u00adnents. As Dr. Thomas Strof, Head of Prod\u00aduct Approval Test\u00ading at MR, explains: \u201cWe have to ensure that our on-load tap-chang\u00aders can deliv\u00ader reli\u00adable oper\u00adation in every spe\u00adcif\u00adic appli\u00adca\u00adtion.\u201d For this pur\u00adpose, since 2008 he and his team have had access to a test cen\u00adter that is the only one of its kind in the world. It is the heart of the company\u2019s research and devel\u00adop\u00adment depart\u00adments, and serves essen\u00adtial\u00adly as a tor\u00adture cham\u00adber that allows the experts to dri\u00adve on-load tap-chang\u00aders to their very lim\u00adits. \u201cAppli\u00adca\u00adtions that involve nor\u00admal net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtion require dif\u00adfer\u00adent kinds of tests than the ones we would use for a phase shifter, of course\u201d, says Strof. A pro\u00adto\u00adtype is not allowed to go into pro\u00adduc\u00adtion until it has sur\u00advived the ordeals that have been specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly designed for it, based on the work that it will do lat\u00ader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Torture Chamber Like No Other<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim is not sim\u00adply to meet the cri\u00adte\u00adria of stan\u00addards such as IEC, IEEE, or JEC, but to exceed them. \u201cInter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal stan\u00addards for on-load tap-chang\u00aders require 500,000 tap-change oper\u00ada\u00adtions. We prove the abil\u00adi\u00adties of our vac\u00adu\u00adum on-load tap-chang\u00aders by sub\u00adject\u00ading them to 1.2 mil\u00adlion switch\u00ading oper\u00ada\u00adtions.\u201d In some cas\u00ades, how\u00adev\u00ader, the require\u00adments of stan\u00addards do not go far enough or con\u00adsid\u00ader spe\u00adcial appli\u00adca\u00adtions. \u201cWe have decades of expe\u00adri\u00adence in the field, and we know which addi\u00adtion\u00adal para\u00adme\u00adters we need to test in order to ensure reli\u00adable oper\u00ada\u00adtion \u2013 even in spe\u00adcial cas\u00ades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there are the tech\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal advances that are not yet cov\u00adered by any stan\u00addard because they are sim\u00adply too new. \u201cWe play an active role in mak\u00ading progress in this area. Our expe\u00adri\u00adence and sim\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion mod\u00adels allow us to pre\u00addict risks and then test com\u00adpo\u00adnents on this basis\u201d, explains Strof. All this requires a lot of work. Year-round, some 4,800 square meters of ful\u00adly auto\u00admat\u00aded test bench\u00ades tor\u00adment the tap chang\u00aders by expos\u00ading them to extreme elec\u00adtri\u00adcal, mechan\u00adi\u00adcal, or cli\u00admate-based con\u00addi\u00adtions. Nowhere else in the world can the entire spec\u00adtrum of stress\u00ades be sim\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded so com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsive\u00adly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HIGH-VOLTAGE TESTING<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In the high-volt\u00adage lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry \u2013 a hall mea\u00adsur\u00ading 20 x 13.5 x 12 meters \u2013 a volt\u00adage pulse gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtor cre\u00adates up to 1.8 mil\u00adlion volts with a rise time of no more than a mil\u00adlionth of a sec\u00adond. This makes it pos\u00adsi\u00adble to test the on-load tap-chang\u00aders\u2019 abil\u00adi\u00adty to with\u00adstand light\u00adning. As the hall is com\u00adplete\u00adly enveloped in met\u00adal, pre\u00advent\u00ading radio sig\u00adnals or any sim\u00adi\u00adlar puls\u00ades from pen\u00ade\u00adtrat\u00ading it, par\u00adtial dis\u00adcharge tests are also per\u00adformed here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PERFORMANCE TESTS<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Engi\u00adneers dri\u00adve load cur\u00adrents of 6,000 amperes and step volt\u00adages of up to 5,000 volts into tap chang\u00aders in order to test their elec\u00adtri\u00adcal per\u00adfor\u00admance. This allows them to assess whether cer\u00adtain fea\u00adtures make the grade, such as con\u00adtact wear, switch\u00ading speed, and arc dura\u00adtion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TEMPERATUR\u00adTESTS<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The two tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture test cham\u00adbers test the effects of cold and heat on our prod\u00aducts. In these, we gen\u00ader\u00adate tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures rang\u00ading from minus 70 degrees Cel\u00adsius up to plus 130 degrees Cel\u00adsius. The on-load tap-chang\u00aders them\u00adselves also gen\u00aderate heat, how\u00adev\u00ader \u2013 so tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture rise tests are per\u00adformed too. Load cur\u00adrents inevitably lead to tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture increas\u00ades in tap chang\u00aders, but these increas\u00ades are not allowed to exceed cer\u00adtain lim\u00adit val\u00adues. Ther\u00admal ele\u00adments are there\u00adfore used to check this effect, act\u00ading like clin\u00adi\u00adcal ther\u00admome\u00adters but at sev\u00ader\u00adal dozen points under oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SHORT-TERM CURRENT TESTS<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay\u00ading immune to short cir\u00adcuits requires tap chang\u00aders to with\u00adstand sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant phys\u00adi\u00adcal exer\u00adtion. To test this, a spe\u00adcial sys\u00adtem gen\u00ader\u00adates cur\u00adrent ampli\u00adtudes of up to 100,000 amperes in the lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MECHANICAL TESTS<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Tap chang\u00aders con\u00adsist of numer\u00adous mechan\u00adi\u00adcal parts, includ\u00ading gears, shafts, and springs. To ensure that they will keep per\u00adform\u00ading their duties even after sev\u00ader\u00adal years, they under\u00adgo tough func\u00adtion and load tests, some of which are repeat\u00aded in order to gain sta\u00adtis\u00adti\u00adcal assur\u00adance where nec\u00ades\u00adsary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DRYING TESTS<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s trans\u00adformer insu\u00adla\u00adtion mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal is dried using vapor-phase tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. While high\u00adly effec\u00adtive, this mod\u00adern process exerts phys\u00adi\u00adcal strain on com\u00adpo\u00adnents. To rule out any neg\u00ada\u00adtive effects that might result from this, we can repro\u00adduce the dry\u00ading process in our lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The test cen\u00adter is equipped with state-of-the-art con\u00adtrol tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy through\u00adout, which pro\u00advides a rapid, accu\u00adrate, and high\u00adly auto\u00admat\u00aded way of con\u00adtrol\u00adling all process\u00ades. Any faults that occur are dis\u00adplayed imme\u00addi\u00adate\u00adly. A cli\u00admate-con\u00adtrolled cal\u00adi\u00adbra\u00adtion lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry ensures that the test equip\u00adment main\u00adtains the nec\u00ades\u00adsary lev\u00adel of accu\u00adra\u00adcy. \u201cThe Ger\u00adman accred\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtion body has cer\u00adti\u00adfied the test cen\u00adter to the DIN EN ISO\/IEC 17025 stan\u00addard.
