Why are megacities such a hot topic?<\/h3>\n

Because huge metrop\u00ado\u00adlis\u00ades are the future. Accord\u00ading to the def\u00adi\u00adn\u00adi\u00adtion giv\u00aden by the Unit\u00aded Nations, a megac\u00adi\u00adty is a city with more than ten mil\u00adlion inhab\u00adi\u00adtants. There are already 28 such cities, which have a com\u00adbined pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion of almost half a bil\u00adlion peo\u00adple. Today, around 55 per\u00adcent of the world\u2019s pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion live in urban areas\u2014by 2050, this fig\u00adure will be two-thirds. By look\u00ading at exist\u00ading megac\u00adi\u00adties, we can put them under the micro\u00adscope and find out what lies ahead for future pow\u00ader grids.

What are the greatest challenges for the power supply?<\/h3>\n

Work\u00ading togeth\u00ader with a con\u00adsul\u00adtan\u00adcy firm, we have con\u00adduct\u00aded a study and worked out three cen\u00adtral aspects. The third aspect relates to effi\u00adcien\u00adcy: How can I trans\u00adport elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty to the megac\u00adi\u00adties, prefer\u00adably with\u00adout great expense and with min\u00adi\u00admal loss\u00ades? This is some\u00adthing we also dis\u00adcuss at TRANSFORM.<\/p>\n

What is the situation regarding safety?<\/h3>\n

In dense\u00adly pop\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded regions, haz\u00adard pre\u00adven\u00adtion and envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal aspects are nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adly a key con\u00adcern. No one wants 300 met\u00adric tons of min\u00ader\u00adal oil to start burn\u00ading right in the mid\u00addle of a city. When we think about the trans\u00adform\u00aders of tomor\u00adrow, we also have to take alter\u00adna\u00adtive insu\u00adla\u00adtion flu\u00adids into account.<\/p>\n

How can a format like TRANSFORM contribute to finding answers and solutions to the major questions of the future?<\/h3>\n

One ele\u00adment of the con\u00adfer\u00adence is the Inno\u00adva\u00adtion Lab where we work togeth\u00ader with the vis\u00adi\u00adtors to fig\u00adure out what the trans\u00adform\u00aders of tomor\u00adrow could look like based on the require\u00adments of the megac\u00adi\u00adties. Past con\u00adfer\u00adences have shown just how pro\u00adduc\u00adtive these meet\u00adings of about 400 indus\u00adtry experts can be. Real\u00adworld appli\u00adca\u00adtions have already been devel\u00adoped from the many ideas that have been dis\u00adcussed there.<\/p>\n

Can you give us an example?<\/h3>\n

ETOS, our sys\u00adtem solu\u00adtion for mon\u00adi\u00adtor\u00ading, reg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00ading, and dig\u00adi\u00adtal\u00adiz\u00ading pow\u00ader trans\u00adform\u00aders. We pre\u00adsent\u00aded the con\u00adcept sim\u00adply as a vision at TRANSFORM in Vien\u00adna back in 2015. Now it is already in use.<\/p>\n
