Once the tube is fixed in place, the rolling shut\u00adter to the sys\u00adtem, itself about the size of a garage, clos\u00ades and inside, a test pro\u00adgram is ini\u00adti\u00adat\u00aded \u2013 a sophis\u00adti\u00adcat\u00aded pro\u00adgram which per\u00adforms bend\u00ading, pres\u00adsure, and leak\u00adage tests as spec\u00adi\u00adfied by the soft\u00adware. The sys\u00adtem is called Pega\u00adsus and it is used to keep a close eye on the qual\u00adi\u00adty of the glass-fiber rein\u00adforced tubes and com\u00adpos\u00adite hol\u00adlow insu\u00adla\u00adtors in the ReCoTec\u00ae range pro\u00adduced at Rein\u00adhausen Pow\u00ader Com\u00adpos\u00adites (RPC) in the Ger\u00adman city of Regens\u00adburg.<br>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe\u2019re the only man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ader in the world with the option to car\u00adry out rou\u00adtine test\u00ading with such a high lev\u00adel of accu\u00adra\u00adcy.\u201c<cite>Mar\u00adcus Hart\u00admann, Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Direc\u00adtor Busi\u00adness Devel\u00adop\u00adment at RPC<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The whole process is car\u00adried out almost entire\u00adly auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly. The insu\u00adlat\u00ading tubes are only deliv\u00adered to cus\u00adtomers or, in the case of type test\u00ading, released for series pro\u00adduc\u00adtion, if the test results are pos\u00adi\u00adtive. Mar\u00adcus Hart\u00admann, Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Direc\u00adtor Busi\u00adness Devel\u00adop\u00adment at RPC, affirms: \u201cOur insu\u00adla\u00adtors are cor\u00adner\u00adstones of the high-volt\u00adage indus\u00adtry and the reli\u00ada\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of our equip\u00adment is para\u00admount. We don\u2019t want to leave a sin\u00adgle thing to chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Averting Disaster<\/h2>\n<p>The demands placed on insu\u00adla\u00adtors in high-volt\u00adage appli\u00adca\u00adtions are enor\u00admous. If the insu\u00adla\u00adtors are not func\u00adtion\u00ading cor\u00adrect\u00adly, the entire pri\u00adma\u00adry sub\u00adsta\u00adtion could go up in flames. Entire city dis\u00adtricts would be left with\u00adout elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty and peo\u00adple\u2019s lives could even be put at risk. Because of this, insu\u00adla\u00adtors have to be built to with\u00adstand not only the decades\u2019 worth of strain that is part and par\u00adcel of every\u00adday grid oper\u00ada\u00adtion, but also nat\u00adur\u00adal phe\u00adnom\u00ade\u00adna such as weath\u00ader\u00ading and earth\u00adquakes.<\/p>\n<p>This is why the ener\u00adgy indus\u00adtry has cre\u00adat\u00aded stan\u00addards out\u00adlin\u00ading the strict require\u00adments which insu\u00adla\u00adtors must meet. These stan\u00addards cov\u00ader mechan\u00adi\u00adcal resis\u00adtance, test\u00aded in bend\u00ading and pres\u00adsure tests, as well as tight\u00adness. \u201cWhat makes Pega\u00adsus so spe\u00adcial is that it com\u00adbines all three test pro\u00adce\u00addures in one run,\u201d explains Hart\u00admann.<\/p>\n<p>The vac\u00adu\u00adum cham\u00adber forms the heart of the Pega\u00adsus sys\u00adtem. This is where the tight\u00adness of the insu\u00adlat\u00ading tubes is put to the test. This aspect is espe\u00adcial\u00adly impor\u00adtant, as the insu\u00adla\u00adtors are fre\u00adquent\u00adly filled with gas or oil which must not be allowed to escape under any cir\u00adcum\u00adstances. The test is cru\u00adcial to ensure the safe\u00adty of the prod\u00aduct. \u201cFor us, it there\u00adfore was\u00adn\u2019t enough to sim\u00adply meet the require\u00adments of the stan\u00addards \u2013 we want\u00aded to sur\u00adpass them,\u201d says Hart\u00admann. That\u2019s why RPC opt\u00aded for an extreme\u00adly sen\u00adsi\u00adtive test pro\u00adce\u00addure in which the insu\u00adla\u00adtor is filled with heli\u00adum while it is in the vac\u00adu\u00adum.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wpcmsdev-box\">\n<div class=\"box-content\">\n<h5>Three in One Go<\/h5>\n<p>The Pega\u00adsus test sys\u00adtem enables Rein\u00adhausen Pow\u00ader Com\u00adpos\u00adites (RPC) to car\u00adry out both type and series test\u00ading for insu\u00adla\u00adtors up to five meters in length. The fol\u00adlow\u00ading tests are car\u00adried out auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly in one go:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"fa-ul\">\n<li><i class=\"yellow fa fa-check\"><\/i> Bend test\u00ading up to 100 kN<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"yellow fa fa-check\"><\/i> Pres\u00adsure test\u00ading with heli\u00adum up to 25 bar<\/li>\n<li><i class=\"yellow fa fa-check\"><\/i> Leak\u00adage test\u00ading with heli\u00adum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reinhausen.com\/rpc\">More infor\u00adma\u00adtion on RPC\u2019s insu\u00adla\u00adtors is avail\u00adable here.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fine\u00adly tuned sen\u00adsors are then able to detect any tiny mol\u00ade\u00adcules of the noble gas that escape as a result of leak\u00adages. \u201cThe norm states that an insu\u00adla\u00adtor with a leak\u00adage rate of 10 \u20114 mbar*l\/sec is tight. We, on the oth\u00ader hand, guar\u00adan\u00adtee a tight\u00adness of 10 \u20116 mbar*l\/sec. That\u2019s a hun\u00addred times more accu\u00adrate!\u201d Once the test is com\u00adplete, the heli\u00adum is recov\u00adered via the pump sta\u00adtion, first by being dis\u00adcharged into a bal\u00adloon with a capac\u00adi\u00adty of 40 cubic meters and then being recom\u00adpressed using a com\u00adpres\u00adsor.<\/p>\n<h2>Intelligent Test Procedure<\/h2>\n<p>Anoth\u00ader chal\u00adlenge to con\u00adtend with dur\u00ading test\u00ading is the fact that not all insu\u00adla\u00adtors are the same. Each cus\u00adtomer has their own spe\u00adcif\u00adic require\u00adments. While the mechan\u00adi\u00adcal load capac\u00adi\u00adty might be the top pri\u00ador\u00adi\u00adty for one cus\u00adtomer, for anoth\u00ader tight\u00adness might be para\u00admount. \u201cWe man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adture our insu\u00adla\u00adtors accord\u00ading to our cus\u00adtomers\u2019 needs, but that means we also have to adjust our test para\u00adme\u00adters to match these indi\u00advid\u00adual require\u00adments,\u201d explains Hart\u00admann.<\/p>\n<p>Pega\u00adsus can do this auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly: So that the sys\u00adtem knows what to do, it com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adcates via data trans\u00adfer with SAP, which is where all the required para\u00adme\u00adters are stored. The test results are stored in an SQL data\u00adbase and are avail\u00adable for sta\u00adtis\u00adti\u00adcal eval\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtions.
