With the Com\u00adpos\u00adite Pylon, BYSTRUP is aim\u00ading to offer an alter\u00adna\u00adtive to con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal trans\u00admis\u00adsion tow\u00aders whose appear\u00adance is less than attrac\u00adtive. For this ambi\u00adtious project, the Dan\u00adish design com\u00adpa\u00adny has joined forces with Val\u00admont SM, Nex\u00adans, Der\u00advaux, and Pow\u00ader Com\u00adpos\u00adites (PC).

\n\u201cWe are delight\u00aded to be part of this excit\u00ading project. The Com\u00adpos\u00adite Pylon aims to make a con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion that will accel\u00ader\u00adate the expan\u00adsion and con\u00adver\u00adsion of pow\u00ader grids\u2014something that is urgent\u00adly need\u00aded to dri\u00adve the ener\u00adgy rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion for\u00adward,\u201d says Matthias Domm, Tech\u00adni\u00adcal Project Man\u00adag\u00ader at PC. Togeth\u00ader, all five project part\u00adners sub\u00admit\u00adted an appli\u00adca\u00adtion to the EU for a new pylon design that would blend into the land\u00adscape bet\u00adter. Approval was grant\u00aded in Novem\u00adber 2019 and three pro\u00adto\u00adtypes are now being pro\u00adduced.<\/p>\n

Attrac\u00adtive, com\u00adpact, and erect\u00aded in next to no time\u2009\u2014\u2009the Com\u00adpos\u00adite Pylon is set to dri\u00adve for\u00adward the grid expan\u00adsion that the ener\u00adgy rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion needs<\/p>\n

The pylons are designed to be erect\u00aded every 360 meters and con\u00adduct 2x400 kV or more<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

PC is respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the cross-arms\u2014a key ele\u00adment of the pylons. These con\u00adsist of hol\u00adlow com\u00adpos\u00adite insu\u00adla\u00adtors encased in sil\u00adi\u00adcone and have a design that enables them to not only absorb the loads of the over\u00adhead line con\u00adduc\u00adtors and con\u00advey these to the tow\u00ader, but also pro\u00advide elec\u00adtri\u00adcal insu\u00adla\u00adtion at the same time. This means that no addi\u00adtion\u00adal sus\u00adpen\u00adsion insu\u00adla\u00adtors are required, as they would be on conven\u00adtional steel lat\u00adtice tow\u00aders. As a result, the Com\u00adpos\u00adite Pylon is con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00adably small\u00ader than 56 meters.<\/p>\n

Fur\u00adther ben\u00ade\u00adfits include the fact that the pylons are eas\u00adi\u00ader to main\u00adtain and quick\u00ader to install\u2014the aim is that it should be pos\u00adsi\u00adble to erect a pylon in one day. The pylons do not require the large foun\u00adda\u00adtions that con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal 400 kV tow\u00aders do and are easy to trans\u00adport by heli\u00adcopter, mean\u00ading that it will be pos\u00adsi\u00adble to place the pylons of the future in dif\u00adfi\u00adcult-to-access loca\u00adtions. Three of the new pylons are set to be erect\u00aded in Den\u00admark for demon\u00adstra\u00adtion pur\u00adpos\u00ades in 2021. A num\u00adber of oper\u00ada\u00adtors are already con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00ading inte\u00adgrat\u00ading some of the first mod\u00adels into their exist\u00ading grid in order to test them out.<\/p>\n
