But what still wasn\u2019t clear was how oper\u00ada\u00adtors should per\u00adform switch\u00ading oper\u00ada\u00adtions when such loads are present.<\/p>\n<p>Bradt con\u00adsid\u00adered the two conditions\u2014amortization in three years and sustainability\u2014and rea\u00adsoned that he need\u00aded main\u00adte\u00adnance-free on-load tap-chang\u00aders, mean\u00ading those with vac\u00adu\u00adum tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy. The down\u00adside was that there were no such on-load tap-chang\u00aders in this pow\u00ader rat\u00ading class. \u201cSo we asked MR to devel\u00adop a VACUTAP for this pur\u00adpose.\u201d And MR was not ful\u00adly unpre\u00adpared to con\u00adfront this chal\u00adlenge since this type of VACUTAP had already been in pre\u00adlim\u00adi\u00adnary devel\u00adop\u00adment for years. But once it became much more of a real\u00adi\u00adty, MR start\u00aded focus\u00ading all its ener\u00adgy and work\u00ading at full force to get the new, mighty VACUTAP ready for oper\u00ada\u00adtion.<\/p>\n<h2>Development no longer an winding road<\/h2>\n<p>The rat\u00aded-cur\u00adrent lim\u00adit for VACUTAP tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy was pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly at 1,300 amperes with\u00adout forced cur\u00adrent split\u00adting. But how gigan\u00adtic does it need to be? Here, MR had a nice sur\u00adprise ready for Siemens and Ampri\u00adon: The new VACUTAP does not fea\u00adture any cur\u00adrent split\u00adting. The on-load tap-chang\u00ader can car\u00adry all the cur\u00adrent with\u00adin one sec\u00adtor, which has major con\u00adse\u00adquences for the trans\u00adformer design because the man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ader does not need to install a com\u00adpli\u00adcat\u00aded wind\u00ading that takes up a lot of space on the coils, which them\u00adselves are the size of a VW bus. This allowed Siemens to think sim\u00adpler and small\u00ader. Due to this VACUTAP fea\u00adture alone, the phase\u00adshifter trans\u00adformer is sub\u00adstan\u00adtial\u00adly small\u00ader than the ver\u00adsions with cur\u00adrent split\u00adting. Small\u00ader means less mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal, lighter, and less insu\u00adlat\u00ading oil.
