If you look close\u00adly, how\u00adev\u00ader, you will also find a gray con\u00adtain\u00ader. This is the vis\u00adi\u00adble sign that the future is being writ\u00adten in Nieder\u00adbobritzsch, near the Sax\u00adon city of Freiberg, where elec\u00adtricity sup\u00adpli\u00ader MITNETZ STROM and Rein\u00adhausen, togeth\u00ader with two uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties, are research\u00ading how to suc\u00adcess\u00adful\u00adly imple\u00adment the ener\u00adgy rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2021\/12\/Jens-Schwedler-Mitnetz-Strom.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-1836\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ener\u00adgy rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion is tak\u00ading place pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly in dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grids. A major\u00adi\u00adty of sys\u00adtems can be found on roofs and facades, mean\u00ading that they are in local grids. Direct\u00ading this solar cur\u00adrent through dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grids to trans\u00adporta\u00adtion grids is not a use\u00adful solu\u00adtion. The grid expan\u00adsion would be extreme\u00adly cost\u00adly and it would be hard to find cus\u00adtomers for the over\u00adsup\u00adply of solar cur\u00adrent around noon\u00adtime. By the same token, in the evening hours, large quan\u00adti\u00adties of elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty must be drawn from the grid as the demand grows on the con\u00adsumer side due to charg\u00ading sta\u00adtions for elec\u00adtric vehi\u00adcles and elec\u00adtri\u00adcal\u00adly pow\u00adered heat pumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-7094 size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2021\/12\/ONLOAD-Niederbobritzsch.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-7094\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Do you know what to do with excess solar cur\u00adrent in dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grids? Anoth\u00ader option for ensur\u00ading flex\u00adi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty is to adjust the demand for elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty to the sup\u00adply with the help of intel\u00adli\u00adgent load con\u00adtrol. Since then, Schwedler and Sch\u00f6n\u00adfeld have worked togeth\u00ader with Mit\u00adtwei\u00adda Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Applied Sci\u00adences, TU Dres\u00adden and Rein\u00adhausen as tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy part\u00adners. As part of the project, spon\u00adsored by the Ger\u00adman Fed\u00ader\u00adal Min\u00adistry for Eco\u00adnom\u00adic Affairs and Ener\u00adgy, they research the advan\u00adtages of decou\u00adpling local grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2021\/12\/Jan-Schoenfeld-Mitnetz-Strom.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-1836\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt takes more intel\u00adli\u00adgent solu\u00adtions than just build\u00ading up over\u00adca\u00adpac\u00adi\u00adty.\u201d <cite>Jan Sch\u00f6n\u00adfeld, Project mem\u00adber, MITNETZ STROM<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has the some\u00adwhat clunky name \u201cFlex\u00adi\u00adbil\u00adisierung des Net\u00adz\u00adbe\u00adtriebs durch entkop\u00adpelte Ort\u00adsnet\u00adze\u201d (Eng\u00adlish: Flex\u00adi\u00adbi\u00adliza\u00adtion of Grid Oper\u00ada\u00adtion through Decou\u00adpled Local Grids), which is short\u00adened to \u201cFlexNet-EkO.\u201d It focus\u00ades on the tran\u00adsi\u00adtion from medi\u00adum-volt\u00adage to low-volt\u00adage grids. In order to test this future solu\u00adtion in a field test, MITNETZ STROM chose the com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty of Nieder\u00adbobritzsch. It is like thou\u00adsands of oth\u00aders in Ger\u00admany and else\u00adwhere in the world. There is also an increas\u00ading num\u00adber of solar pan\u00adels on roofs here. Par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly in the sum\u00admer, the momen\u00adtary pro\u00adduc\u00adtion pow\u00ader exceeds ener\u00adgy con\u00adsump\u00adtion. \u201cHere, we have the phe\u00adnom\u00ade\u00adnon of load flow rever\u00adsal, and the remain\u00ading renew\u00adable ener\u00adgy does not appear when the res\u00adi\u00addents actu\u00adal\u00adly need the elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty,\u201d says Sch\u00f6n\u00adfeld.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wpcmsdev-box\">\n<div class=\"box-content\">\n<h5>FlexNet-Eko<\/h5>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Mak\u00ading grid oper\u00ada\u00adtion more flex\u00adi\u00adble through decou\u00adpled local grids<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7062 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2021\/12\/Map-Mitnetz-Strom-Grid.png\" alt width=\"206\" height=\"300\"><br>\nOne of the cur\u00adrent big ques\u00adtions is how to best coor\u00addi\u00adnate flex\u00adi\u00adble con\u00adsumers and gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors in a local grid, while at the same time ensur\u00ading opti\u00admal pow\u00ader qual\u00adi\u00adty, reliev\u00ading the bur\u00adden on exist\u00ading equip\u00adment and guar\u00adan\u00adtee\u00ading or even increas\u00ading the secu\u00adri\u00adty of sup\u00adply.<\/p>\n<p>It is exact\u00adly this ques\u00adtion that MITNETZ STROM, Mit\u00adtwei\u00adda Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Applied Sci\u00adences, TU Dres\u00adden, and Rein\u00adhausen are tack\u00adling as part of a research project spon\u00adsored by the Ger\u00adman Fed\u00ader\u00adal Min\u00adistry for Eco\u00adnom\u00adic Affairs and Ener\u00adgy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FlexNet-EkO has the fol\u00adlow\u00ading goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High\u00adly reli\u00adable sup\u00adply of the local grid with a high pow\u00ader qual\u00adi\u00adty<\/li>\n<li>Test\u00ading the new grid cou\u00adpling equip\u00adment in the grid<\/li>\n<li>Test\u00ading the actu\u00ada\u00adtion of decen\u00adtral\u00adized con\u00adsumers and pro\u00adduc\u00aders using fre\u00adquen\u00adcy mod\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion<\/li>\n<li>Devel\u00adop\u00ading the plan\u00adning and oper\u00adat\u00ading cri\u00adte\u00adria for mod\u00adu\u00adlar grids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The four part\u00adners have now been work\u00ading togeth\u00ader on the idea for more than two years and imple\u00adment\u00aded it in a field test in Octo\u00adber&nbsp;2021: How can a mod\u00adu\u00adlar dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grid be set up with a pow\u00ader-elec\u00adtron\u00adic grid coup\u00adling? Fur\u00adther\u00admore, can the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion-side and con\u00adsumer-side peaks be buffered using bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage units in order to bring demand and sup\u00adply into har\u00admo\u00adny with\u00adin the dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grid, and reduce reper\u00adcus\u00adsions on the upstream medi\u00adum-volt\u00adage lev\u00adel?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/de\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2021\/12\/Stephan_Rupp.jpg\" alt class=\"wp-image-1836\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cA grid-form\u00ading invert\u00ader would act like a diesel gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtor or a small pow\u00ader plant.\u201d <cite>Stephan Rupp, Busi\u00adness Devel\u00adop\u00ader, Rein\u00adhausen<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>To find the answers to these ques\u00adtions, Rein\u00adhausen con\u00adtributed its exper\u00adtise in stor\u00adage tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy and pow\u00ader qual\u00adi\u00adty man\u00adage\u00adment to the project. \u201cThe decou\u00adpling of a local grid with Rein\u00adhausen tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy offers us a whole range of pos\u00adsi\u00adble advan\u00adtages as a grid oper\u00ada\u00adtor. What we dis\u00adcov\u00adered, first in the\u00ado\u00adry and then under lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry con\u00addi\u00adtions, has now been test\u00aded in a local grid with 200&nbsp;house\u00adholds under real-world con\u00addi\u00adtions for the first time,\u201d says project mem\u00adber Sch\u00f6n\u00adfeld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Semiconductors stabilize load flows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the tri\u00adal grid in Nieder\u00adbobritzsch, a bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage unit from Rein\u00adhausen is now in use that stores the excess renew\u00adable ener\u00adgy. The project also focus\u00ades on the sta\u00adbi\u00adliza\u00adtion and har\u00admo\u00adniza\u00adtion of load flows with\u00adin dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grids. MITNETZ tech\u00adni\u00adcian Sch\u00f6n\u00adfeld says, \u201cWe can bal\u00adance the sup\u00adply and demand using intel\u00adli\u00adgent con\u00adtrol. We con\u00adsume the elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty we pro\u00adduce local\u00adly, thus reliev\u00ading the bur\u00adden on the upstream medi\u00adum-volt\u00adage grid. To do so, the con\u00adtrol sys\u00adtem of the invert\u00ader com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adcates direct\u00adly with the con\u00adtrol box\u00ades installed in the cus\u00adtomer sys\u00adtems with sig\u00adnals in the range of 10&nbsp;MHz over the pow\u00ader grid. This means that, when a lot of elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty is gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded, elec\u00adtric vehi\u00adcles are charged, heat pumps are start\u00aded up, and the bat\u00adtery in the con\u00adtain\u00ader is charged. If more ener\u00adgy is required lat\u00ader than what is being pro\u00adduced, it is avail\u00adable.\u201d It sounds like a real win-win sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion for grid oper\u00ada\u00adtors and cus\u00adtomers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy required for this, how\u00adev\u00ader, intro\u00adduces the next chal\u00adlenge: the short-cir\u00adcuit capac\u00adi\u00adty. Schwedler says, \u201cIn order to pro\u00advide suf\u00adfi\u00adcient short-cir\u00adcuit capac\u00adi\u00adty with semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, we designed the pow\u00ader of the sys\u00adtem to be twice as large as would actu\u00adal\u00adly be need\u00aded.
