The idea is that as more and more gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion capac\u00adi\u00adty migrates to local grids, they should become increas\u00ading\u00adly inde\u00adpen\u00addent of upstream grids. The advan\u00adtages: On the one hand, these \u201cself-suf\u00adfi\u00adcient\u201d local grids would no longer be affect\u00aded by the uncer\u00adtain\u00adties and volt\u00adage fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions of the upstream grids. And on the oth\u00ader hand, they them\u00adselves would no longer place such a heavy bur\u00adden on the upstream net\u00adworks from fluc\u00adtu\u00adat\u00ading feed-in, since dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion grids are still designed for elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty that only flows in one direc\u00adtion.<\/p>\n<p>What sounds sim\u00adple in the\u00ado\u00adry, how\u00adev\u00ader, turns out to be a tech\u00adni\u00adcal\u00adly high\u00adly demand\u00ading under\u00adtak\u00ading in prac\u00adtice. How\u00adev\u00ader, a num\u00adber of projects are show\u00ading how sup\u00adply can suc\u00adceed at the munic\u00adi\u00adpal lev\u00adel, whether through com\u00adplete\u00adly self-suf\u00adfi\u00adcient sys\u00adtems (Feld\u00adheim), iso\u00adlat\u00aded solu\u00adtions (Mau\u00adri\u00adtius) or a decou\u00adpled local grid (Nieder\u00adbobritzsch). The com\u00admon denom\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtors in these solu\u00adtions are mod\u00adern con\u00advert\u00ader sys\u00adtems and bat\u00adter\u00adies for stor\u00adage.<\/p>\n<h2>Feldheim: An energy-self-sufficient village<\/h2>\n<p>One of the show\u00adcase projects when it comes to ener\u00adgy self-suf\u00adfi\u00adcient com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adties is the Feld\u00adheim vil\u00adlage of the Bran\u00adden\u00adburg town of Treuen\u00adbri\u00adet\u00adzen. All ener\u00adgy is gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded on site exclu\u00adsive\u00adly from renew\u00adable sources. A wind farm is the basis for the local pow\u00ader sup\u00adply; heat is sup\u00adplied by a bio\u00adgas plant. And if it gets par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly cold in win\u00adter, a wood\u00adchip heat\u00ading plant is also avail\u00adable. The spe\u00adcial fea\u00adture of this ener\u00adgy con\u00adcept is that the heat and elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty gen\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded on site are fed direct\u00adly to con\u00adsumers and any sur\u00adplus is fed into the upstream grid. Fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions in the grid are pre\u00advent\u00aded by a region\u00adal reg\u00adu\u00adlat\u00ading pow\u00ader plant and a bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage sys\u00adtem. As Doreen Rasche\u00admann from project devel\u00adop\u00ader Energiequelle told Deutsch\u00adland\u00adfunk radio: \u201cThe stor\u00adage sys\u00adtems ensure that we real\u00adly do have a sta\u00adble grid, and that the fre\u00adquen\u00adcy of 50 Hz is main\u00adtained.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>A TRUE \u201cISLAND\u201d GRID FOR MAURITIUS<\/h2>\n<p>Tom Fricke and his team are active in many dif\u00adfer\u00adent parts of the world. He is Head of Ener\u00adgy Stor\u00adage at DHYBRID, a solu\u00adtion provider for renew\u00adable ener\u00adgies and bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage sys\u00adtems. Based in Gaut\u00ading, Bavaria, the com\u00adpa\u00adny designs hybrid sys\u00adtems world\u00adwide that intel\u00adli\u00adgent\u00adly com\u00adbine bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage and renew\u00adable ener\u00adgies. There, the local ener\u00adgy sup\u00adpli\u00ader CEB pro\u00adhibits pho\u00adto\u00advolta\u00adic sys\u00adtems from being con\u00adnect\u00aded direct\u00adly to the grid. Fricke reports: \u201cFor cost and sus\u00adtain\u00adabil\u00adi\u00adty rea\u00adsons, our cus\u00adtomer Kalac\u00adhand want\u00aded to move away from diesel gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors and the unsta\u00adble pow\u00ader grid and cov\u00ader its needs pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly with solar pow\u00ader. From a pure\u00adly legal point of view, how\u00adev\u00ader, this was only pos\u00adsi\u00adble if we phys\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly decou\u00adpled the local grid from the upstream pow\u00ader grid and set up an inde\u00adpen\u00addent island grid.\u201d That\u2019s because the sun shines on Mau\u00adri\u00adtius for 2,900 hours a year. And dur\u00ading mid\u00adday, the plant pro\u00adduces up to 535 kW. In order to save the ener\u00adgy into the night hours, the spe\u00adcial\u00adists from Dhy\u00adbrid built a bat\u00adtery stor\u00adage sys\u00adtem with around 613 kWh and com\u00adbined it with two Rein\u00adhausen GRIDCON\u00ae PCS con\u00advert\u00aders, which set up an island grid that is phys\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly sep\u00ada\u00adrat\u00aded from the pub\u00adlic grid. Now the oper\u00ada\u00adtor saves almost 214,000 liters of diesel per year and no longer has any pow\u00ader out\u00adages, which means that the entire sys\u00adtem will pay for itself in just under four years. The advan\u00adtage of this solu\u00adtion is that, as a pure con\u00adsumer, it can still access the elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty in the upstream grid if nec\u00ades\u00adsary.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSce\u00adnar\u00adios of severe volt\u00adage fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions and pow\u00ader out\u00adages last\u00ading from sec\u00adonds to more than 72 hours are no longer unthink\u00adable.\u201d<br>\n<cite>Tom Fricke, DHYBRID<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The require\u00adments are sim\u00adi\u00adlar for oth\u00ader projects spread around the world. Fricke explains: \u201cMany of our cus\u00adtomers want to sup\u00adport their diesel or gas gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors with renew\u00adables and thus reduce costs and con\u00adsump\u00adtion. For oth\u00aders, the issue is reli\u00adability, because either the upstream grid is unsta\u00adble or they oper\u00adate safe\u00adty-crit\u00adi\u00adcal appli\u00adca\u00adtions that don\u2019t tol\u00ader\u00adate down\u00adtime.\u201d Look\u00ading at Ger\u00admany and the Euro\u00adpean net\u00adworks, Fricke makes inter\u00adest\u00ading obser\u00adva\u00adtions, \u201cHere we\u2019ve always had incred\u00adi\u00adbly sta\u00adble net\u00adworks.\u201d For this rea\u00adson, this mar\u00adket was not very prof\u00aditable for Dhy\u00adbrid. \u201cBut in the mean\u00adtime,\u201d Fricke says, \u201cthe sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion has changed and there is a rethink\u00ading in indus\u00adtry and pol\u00adi\u00adtics. Sce\u00adnar\u00adios of severe volt\u00adage fluc\u00adtu\u00ada\u00adtions and pow\u00ader out\u00adages last\u00ading from sec\u00adonds to more than 72 hours are no long\u00ader unthink\u00adable. Our solu\u00adtion port\u00adfo\u00adlio can help bridge these dis\u00adrup\u00adtions sus\u00adtain\u00adably.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"yellow\">\n<h2>Niederbobritzsch makes it!<\/h2>\n<p>FlexNet-EkO \u2014 mak\u00ading net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtion more flex\u00adi\u00adble by means of decou\u00adpled local net\u00adworks \u2014 is also con\u00adcerned with the issue of sup\u00adply qual\u00adi\u00adty and reli\u00ada\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of the local net\u00adwork. As part of this research project fund\u00aded by the Ger\u00adman Fed\u00ader\u00adal Min\u00adistry of Eco\u00adnom\u00adics and Cli\u00admate Pro\u00adtec\u00adtion (BMWK), the dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion net\u00adwork oper\u00ada\u00adtor MITNETZ STROM has set up a local net\u00adwork in Nieder\u00adbobritzsch whose only con\u00adnec\u00adtion to the upstream net\u00adwork is via a pow\u00ader-elec\u00adtron\u00adic net\u00adwork cou\u00adpling from Rein\u00adhausen <a href=\"https:\/\/onload.reinhausen.com\/en\/12-2021\/semiconductors-in-the-grid\/\">(see ONLOAD 10)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe sys\u00adtem builds up a com\u00adplete\u00adly sta\u00adble grid; inter\u00adrup\u00adtions are com\u00adpen\u00adsat\u00aded for by the bat\u00adtery.\u201d<br>\n<cite>Jens Schwedler, MITNETZ STROM<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Project man\u00adag\u00ader at MITNETZ STROM, the largest region\u00adal dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion sys\u00adtem oper\u00ada\u00adtor in east\u00adern Ger\u00admany, is Jens Schwedler. The ques\u00adtion he has been work\u00ading on for almost three years togeth\u00ader with Mit\u00adtwei\u00adda Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Applied Sci\u00adences, Dres\u00adden Tech\u00adni\u00adcal Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and Rein\u00adhausen as a tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy part\u00adner: How can a mod\u00adu\u00adlar dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion net\u00adwork with a pow\u00ader-elec\u00adtron\u00adic grid cou\u00adpling be con\u00adstruct\u00aded? To this end, the par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpants have been re\u00adsearching a sys\u00adtem tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy basis for the use of pow\u00ader elec\u00adtron\u00adic net\u00adwork cou\u00adplings (eNCs). The basis is the decen\u00adtral\u00adized and cus\u00adtomer-ori\u00adent\u00aded pro\u00advi\u00adsion of the required volt\u00adage qual\u00adi\u00adty. In addi\u00adtion, the aim is to achieve sim\u00adple and cost-effec\u00adtive reg\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion of con\u00adtrol\u00adlable con\u00adsumers, gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtors and stor\u00adage units in the dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion net\u00adwork.<\/p>\n<h2>Highest voltage quality<\/h2>\n<p>Since Sep\u00adtem\u00adber 2021, as part of a tech\u00adni\u00adcal fea\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty study, a gray con\u00adtain\u00ader has been the heart of the dis\u00adtri\u00adb\u00adu\u00adtion net\u00adwork in this Cen\u00adtral Sax\u00adon munic\u00adi\u00adpal\u00adi\u00adty. It con\u00adtains the stor\u00adage units and a pow\u00ader-elec\u00adtron\u00adic grid cou\u00adpling with a grid-form\u00ading con\u00advert\u00ader. Schwedler reports: \u201cThe sys\u00adtem has been run\u00adning smooth\u00adly for four months. One pos\u00adi\u00adtive aspect is that we are mea\u00adsur\u00ading excel\u00adlent volt\u00adage qual\u00adi\u00adty which we could nev\u00ader have got\u00adten from the pub\u00adlic grid. The sys\u00adtem sim\u00adply fil\u00adters out asym\u00adme\u00adtries from the medi\u00adum-volt\u00adage grid and builds up a com\u00adplete\u00adly sta\u00adble low-volt\u00adage grid. It com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adcates via the pow\u00ader grid with sig\u00adnals in the 100 mil\u00adli\u00adhertz range. MITNETZ STROM was able to win sev\u00ader\u00adal cus\u00adtomers for a field test who have equipped inert loads such as wall\u00adbox\u00ades for e\u2011cars or heat pumps with a con\u00adtrol box. If the pow\u00ader pro\u00adduc\u00adtion falls below a crit\u00adi\u00adcal val\u00adue or is cur\u00adrent\u00adly run\u00adning on bat\u00adtery pow\u00ader due to an inter\u00adrup\u00adtion, the charg\u00ading process or the heat pump sim\u00adply stops for this peri\u00adod. The cus\u00adtomer is not even aware of this. Schwedler empha\u00adsizes: \u201cThis is about con\u00adtrol tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy for sta\u00adbi\u00adliz\u00ading the net\u00adworks. For com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion, I need a secure path. The results show that this can be fre\u00adquen\u00adcy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rein\u00adhausen tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy has thus prov\u00ad\u00aden itself in Nieder\u00adbobritzsch, mak\u00ading decou\u00adpling, grid build\u00ading, stor\u00adage and con\u00adtrol all pos\u00adsi\u00adble.
