Digitalizing transformers requires a whole lot more electronic equipment in primary substations. And so the question on everyone’s lips is: Can this cause electromagnetic interference? Reinhausen went to great lengths to make sure that is not the case, commissioning renowned testing and certification institute VDE to examine its ETOS® transformer control.
The institute conducted several series of tests to check the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the system in a perfectly shielded anechoic chamber. The requirements stipulate that the system must not interfere with other electrical devices and must not be too sensitive in its own response to external signals.
This helps ensure that the system remains stable and can be operated reliably. The IEC 61000–6‑5 standard, which sets out extremely stringent requirements as far as EMC is concerned, applies to primary substations. ETOS® from Reinhausen passed all of the tests it needed to pass.
