Advanced Test­ing Sys­tems Inc. —locat­ed in Bethel, Con­necti­cut —spe­cial­izes in high-volt­age test­ing tech­nol­o­gy and equip­ment test­ing. Rein­hausen has now deliv­ered 10,000 ECOTAP® VPD® on-load tap-chang­ers to cus­tomers all over the world. Does this mean that the volt­age reg­u­lat­ing dis­tri­b­u­tion trans­former (VRDT) is still an inno­va­tion or is it now an estab­lished stan­dard? Three grid oper­a­tors and three trans­former man­u­fac­tur­ers pro­vide insights.

The ECOTAP® VPD® I from MR trans­forms stan­dard sin­­gle-phase dis­tri­b­u­tion trans­form­ers into on-load volt­age reg­u­lat­ing units, sig­nif­i­cant­ly enhanc­ing the host­ing capac­i­ty of res­i­den­tial dis­tri­b­u­tion net­works.

Shunt reac­tors are in high demand as grid-sta­bi­l­iz­ing com­po­nents. How­ev­er, test­ing them is much more demand­ing than test­ing trans­form­ers. Siemens Energy’s trans­former plant in Dres­den there­fore relies on a new test­ing sys­tem from HIGHVOLT, which is the only one of its kind in the world.

Elec­tri­fi­ca­tion and the expan­sion of the elec­tric­i­ty grids are the cor­ner­stones of the ener­gy tran­si­tion. This is where the foun­da­tions for a sus­tain­able and future-proof ener­gy sup­ply are being laid.

The MESSKO® MTO oil lev­el indi­ca­tors are not only avail­able in numer­ous vari­ants, they can also be dig­i­tized, and they have now been installed at the Kor­bach sub­sta­tion.

The mod­ern­iza­tion of grids requires dig­i­tal­ized solu­tions. Trans­former man­u­fac­tur­ers also have respon­si­bil­i­ties in this regard and here they explain how a part­ner­ship with MR sup­ports their goals.
