With ETOS® MD-IV Rein­hausen has devel­oped a dig­i­tal­iza­tion solu­tion for pow­er trans­form­ers tai­lored to the US mar­ket.

Rein­hausen is now launch­ing the fourth gen­er­a­tion of the MD motor-dri­ve unit in the USA with ETOS®. Robert Vary, CEO and Pres­i­dent of Rein­hausen USA, explains the back­ground and ben­e­fits of the mod­u­lar sys­tem solu­tion for mon­i­tor­ing, con­trol­ling, reg­u­lat­ing and dig­i­tiz­ing pow­er trans­form­ers.

The E.ON Hungária Group has opened a ful­ly auto­mat­ed trans­former sta­tion in Budapest and wants to dig­i­tal­ize its entire trans­former fleet step by step. The com­pa­ny is rely­ing on trans­former man­u­fac­tur­er GANZ Trans­form­ers and Elec­tric Rotat­ing Machines Ltd, which is using MR’s intel­li­gent solu­tions.

It hard­ly ever hap­pens; but if it does, it can end bad­ly: a trans­former fire after a flashover. A new pas­sive pro­tec­tion sys­tem from MR pro­tects oper­a­tors from seri­ous dam­age in such cas­es.

The Euro­pean lab­o­ra­to­ry for par­ti­cle physics, CERN, is one of the largest research facil­i­ties in the world. In a cur­rent project, the North Area exper­i­men­tal facil­i­ty is being brought up to the state of the art. MANGOLDT fil­ter chokes play a deci­sive role in this.

How’s the trans­former? The grid oper­a­tor MITNETZ STROM wants to know exact­ly and is equip­ping two pow­er trans­form­ers at the Meusel­witz sub­sta­tion with ETOS®. With this cen­tral con­trol and mon­i­tor­ing sys­tem, the con­di­tion of trans­form­ers can be con­tin­u­ous­ly mon­i­tored, and their ser­vice life increased through pre­dic­tive main­te­nance.

Although this sup­pli­er of high-volt­age test­ing and mea­sure­ment tech­nol­o­gy has only been called HIGHVOLT since 1995, the Rein­hausen Group mem­ber can look back on a much longer his­to­ry.

The MR Pow­er Qual­i­ty Con­vert­ers team is devel­op­ing fresh ideas for the new mar­kets of tomor­row at the for­mer Tegel Air­port in Berlin.
