Lon­don needs more and more ener­gy, but it is run­ning out of space. The city has there­fore con­struct­ed an elec­tric­i­ty tun­nel deep under­ground. To elim­i­nate the risk of a cat­a­stroph­ic black­out, mobile test sys­tems checked every sin­gle sec­tion of cable.

They are high­ly regard­ed by their fel­low experts, they have a wealth of exper­tise, and they are unit­ed by one thing: They are all work­ing for the Rein­hausen Group on find­ing the best tech­ni­cal solu­tions for net­work oper­a­tors, trans­former man­u­fac­tur­ers, and gen­er­al con­trac­tors.

What hap­pens when things go wrong.

The life of an on-load tap-chang­er is a very long one indeed. It will still be per­form­ing switch­ing oper­a­tions in the trans­former long after its mak­ers have retired. Three young Rein­hausen employ­ees in Ger­many, Chi­na, and the USA say good­bye to a tap chang­er that shares their birth­day – and reveal what they hope the future holds for them while their tap chang­er is work­ing hard.

Trans­former fleets are get­ting old­er, ener­gy net­works are becom­ing more and more com­plex, and impor­tant know-how is being lost through demo­graph­ic change. What can we do about it? The solu­tion is to use intel­li­gent equip­ment.
