Green hydrogen for BASF

Here in this hall at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen is the heart of Germany’s largest proton exchange membrane electrolyzer (PEM) with a connected load of 54 megawatts. The plant’s 72 stacks can produce 8,000 tons of CO2-free hydrogen per year using electricity from renewable energy sources. The hydrogen is then fed into the site’s H2 network and is used, among other things, as a starting material for the production of basic chemical products. MR contributes to stable and efficient hydrogen production with on-load tap-changers in the electrolysis transformers and compact GRIDCON® ACF harmonic filters.
