Ocean waves hold enormous amounts of energy. According to estimates by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), wave power plants could produce 29,500 TWh of electricity worldwide every year. That is almost ten times Europe’s consumption. So far, however, there has been no economic solution to exploit this potential. The WEDUSEA project aims to change this.
The cooperation between 14 partners from industry and research from five countries, funded by the EU and the UK, aims to build the world’s largest floating wave-energy device to date off the Scottish coast by 2026 with an expected output of one megawatt. This future-oriented project could make an important contribution to the energy transition and MR’s products help to ensure that electricity flows reliably even on the high seas.
