With up to 650 offshore wind turbines 260 meters high, and a planned area up to eight times the size of the Louvre — the Danes have opted for a spectacular project to master the energy transition. About 80 kilometers off the North Sea coast of Thorsminde, an artificial island is to be built that will bundle electricity from surrounding offshore wind farms and then supply it to Denmark, as well as Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The project is being financed by the Danish government and the Dutch energy company TenneT. Reinhausen Managing Director Wilfried Breuer and Torben Glar, CEO of the Danish energy company Energinet, had the initial idea for this mammoth project, which will set a strong example for the energy transition in Europe. Further information about this project will be available in our next issue.
