With ETOS® MD-IV Reinhausen has developed a digitalization solution for power transformers tailored to the US market.
With the fourth generation of the MD motor-drive unit, customers now have the option of combining the classic drive function in a control cabinet with ETOS® functions (Monitoring, Regulation & Control). The additional functions can be installed modularly and cost-effectively in the control cabinet.

Six advantages at a glance:
1
Optimizing the operation of the transformer
2
Recording of all operating data via a large number of sensors
3
Evaluating the condition and utilization of the transformer
4
Cost-efficient planning of operation and maintenance
5
Data and evaluations are available on-site at the transformer or can be integrated into a fleet monitoring system
6
Open, manufacturer-independent platform meets the highest safety standards
Collecting condition data
With ETOS® technology, Reinhausen has developed an open system solution for controlling and digitizing power transformers, which can be used to monitor the condition of equipment in real time. However, the potential can only be fully harnessed with the data collection by sensors. Reinhausen offers a comprehensive portfolio of sensors and protective devices for power transformers:
Standard sensors
The MESSKO® COMPACT, MESSKO® TRASY2, and MESSKO® BETECH series measure oil and winding temperatures. The MESSKO® MTO and MESSKO® MMK oil level indicators are for monitoring the fill level.
Intelligent sensors
The intelligent MSENSE® sensor family from Reinhausen not only records the values required to monitor the transformer. Thanks to algorithms developed by Reinhausen and with the help of artificial intelligence, they also provide specific recommendations for action, thus increasing operational safety. These recommendations include monitoring of the bushings, determining the gas content in the oil, temperature monitoring of the winding, and vibroacoustic measurement of the tap-changer.
Protective devices
Protective devices ensure trouble-free operation and provide important data. These include the maintenance-free MESSKO® MTRAB® breathers and the MESSKO® MSAFE® Buchholz relay.

Status report and recommendations
The more sensors connected to ETOS®, the better the evaluations and recommendations for action from the “Asset Intelligence” function supplied as standard. This function is used to interpret the data from the sensors and detect faulty transformer conditions. The system assesses the probability and criticality of the fault as well as the possible consequences for the transformer and evaluates the options for rectifying the fault. With the new package solution, grid operators have everything they need to ensure reliable operation.
