Reason for hope

Solar power from the lake: that is the idea behind the floating PV concept offered by BayWa r.e., among others. The subsidiary of the agricultural group of the same name, which specializes in renewable energy solutions, installs highly efficient floating PV systems on unused areas of water. Suitable sites include disused lignite an sand pits or reservoirs. The systems produce green electricity and minimize water evaporation at the same time.

BayWa r.e. has optimized the structure for quick installation. Twelve PV modules are installed on a flotation unit on land which is then towed onto the water and connected to other units. To date, the project developer has 19 floating solar plants with a total capacity of over 200MW in operation or under construction.
